Aaron Judge will visit the Giants today

As had been the plan for months now (since he turned down Brian Cashman’s contract extension last spring), Aaron Judge became a free agent in the final weeks.

And who says “Aaron Judge free as the air” also says that he will be a coveted man.

He said he was going to listen to other teams and during the day, that’s what he’s going to do with the San Francisco Giants.

Right now, the star outfielder is in California listening to what his childhood club has to say to convince him to sign there.

Originally, it was the excellent Jon Morosi who reported the news via a video of Judge, who said he was in town to see his family.

And then Mark Feinsand added, mentioning in passing that it is Tuesday (today) that the #99 must meet the leaders of the Giants.

It’s clear the Giants are among the Yankees’ biggest rivals to sign Judge. The Dodgers also have their nose in the file, but the Giants seem to have an ascendancy.

And by force of circumstance, this will increase the price. Right now, Aaron Judge would be asking no less than $40 million per year over eight years.

Did the reigning MVP do well to refuse $213.5 million over seven years a few months ago? To ask the question is, of course, to answer it.

Whether he’ll be impressed with what he sees in San Francisco remains to be seen.
