For the past few days, every time Aaron Judge and Albert Pujols are at bat, the world stops spinning. We want to see if they’ll hit a home run.
And last night the New York Judge did. Against the Pirates, he hit his 60th long ball of the season in the ninth inning.
It was a young fan who caught him and he chose to put the ball back to #99… asking him to stay in New York for the long term.
Obviously, to match Babe Ruth with his 60 long balls is a great honor for the star outfielder. He will now have to, in front of the family of Roger Maris, try to equal and beat the record of the Yankees and the American.
He has two weeks left.
Note also that if the season were to end this morning, Judge would have managed to get his hands on the Triple Crown, which is no small feat.
But back to the game.
Four batters after the Judge cut the Pirates’ lead to 8-5 in the ninth, Giancarlo Stanton showed up at the plate with the bases loaded. And in one go, the Yankees won 9-8…
It was the third winning grand slam of his career, which ties an MLB record. But above all, it allows him to get back on track.
Let’s say that yesterday, the atmosphere in New York must have been completely crazy.
- The Braves are officially in the playoffs.
- 18 points yesterday for the Blue Jays in a win over the Phillies.
- Shane McClanahan is still injured.
- Gerrit Cole will be the Yankees’ #1 pitcher in the playoffs.
- Teoscar Hernandez is not 100%.
