This winter, the #1 priority for the San Francisco Giants was very clear: the team was going to do everything to try to encourage Aaron Judge to come to town. The outfielder, who was coming off a historic season with the Yankees, grew up as a Giants fan and the team needed a new franchise face following the retirement of Buster Posey.
That said, we know the rest of the story: Judge ultimately decided to stay in the Bronx to spend his entire career there, having signed a nine-year, $360 million pact with the Bombardiers.
Obviously, the Giants were disappointed not to sign him, but despite everything, they are well aware that they have done everything in their power to try to attract him.
That said, you can’t stop a heart from loving, and for Judge, his heart was in the Bronx. Attracting him elsewhere was a daunting task and perhaps even impossible, no matter how hard other clubs put in.
In an attempt to get Judge to consider the Giants, the latter notably asked Stephen Curry to meet with him, but Logan Webb and Brandon Crawford also came into regular contact with the #99.
Webb also claims that the group that met Judge was disappointed that he stayed in the Bronx, but he claims that the slugger is now a friend of his. So did Carlos Correa, who he also spoke to when the Giants tried to sign him.
Clearly, then, the Giants feel they did everything they could, but in the end Judge simply preferred the status quo, he who made sure he kept his Yankees legacy forever and club captain.
And let’s just say it’s hard to blame him for his decision.
