Last year, the Yankees finally ended their professional relationship with Aaron Hicks. The outfielder, who had some good times in the Bronx, was clearly at loggerheads with the organization and there was a feeling that a little change would do both parties good.
It was a big decision considering that he will receive $10 million per year until the end of the 2026 season, but the situation had become unsustainable. Hicks was unhappy, the Yankees no longer had room for him and he was the target of boos from the fans.
When we look at the outfielder's descent into hell with the Yankees, we suspect that the numerous injuries did not help him keep pace after his big 2018 season. Health problems, including an elbow injury and another to the wrist, hurt his production.
Obviously, the Yankees have tried to find ways to limit Hicks… and according to AJ Pierzynski, there is a rumor going around that the Bombers have stopped Hicks from playing golf altogether for his health.
That's what he revealed to Foul Territory this week.
Obviously, this is a rumor that is surprising. Actually, what you need to know is that the outfielder is an excellent golfer (he finished eighth in a celebrity tournament last week) and hopes to be a PGA Tour member one day .
However, the Yankees would have judged that it was too dangerous for him to play golf considering the injuries, so much so that they would have completely prevented him from playing to protect his health.
Pierzynski can't confirm for sure that this is actually what happened, but it's a rumor that has been circulating, in any case.
Now that he's no longer with the Yankees, Hicks can play golf without any problem, he who is currently a free agent and whose name is not circulating at all among the rumors.
It will be interesting to see if a team will offer him a contract… but more importantly, if that team will allow him to play golf or not.
- Hector Neris: one year, nine million dollars with the Cubs. A club or player option could result in the contract increasing to two years.
- Adam Frazier with the Royals.
