As too often since his arrival with the New York Yankees, manager Aaron Boone once again cost his team the victory last night (Wednesday) against the Baltimore Orioles.
Ahead by the score of 2-0 after five sets of play, the skipper decided for no reason to release pitcher Randy Vasquez from the game, he who had just made only 75 pitches, giving up no runs on three hits.
What had to happen did happen, with the Orioles scoring four runs in the sixth inning, two of them thanks to largesse from Jake Bauers in left field, and cruising to an important 6-3 victory over a direct rival in the American League East.
Big Boone…
Can someone explain to me how Dean Kremer and his stellar ERA above five before the game can throw seven innings knowing essentially the same game as his vis-Ă -vis Vasquez, but the latter must absolutely leave because his manager and his analytics geniuses decide so?
Probably nobody, and I don’t blame you.
The Bronx Bombers somehow tried to get back in the duel by approaching a point of the Orioles in the eighth inning against a Yennier Cano who does not seem really comfortable in New York, but the damage of the manager were already done.
Too little too late.
Boone has more often than not made this kind of decision without having any feeling of the game and unfortunately it will continue to do so. As Albert Einstein so aptly said, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
And that could hurt a lot in the playoffs.
- The Cardinals found a new way to lose yesterday.
- When will he return to the game?
