A thundering start to the season for Eduardo Rodriguez

We are in the quarter of the season of playing in the MLB and already a few names are starting to stand out for a potential trade at the trade deadline.

Among these, Eduardo Rodriguez. The former Red Sox starter, who entered his second season with the Detroit Tigers, is unrecognizable this year.

He has a 1.57 run-against average, a 0.79 WHIP and opposing batters are hitting a meager .174 against him this spring. In comparison, Rodriguez presents a ERA of 4.02 in career.

If he can maintain that pace, he’ll definitely be a contender for the Cy Young Trophy in the American this year.

It is especially his change of speed that seems to give the most difficulties to the batters.

The Tigers, who are still rebuilding, may be tempted to trade Rodriguez at the trade deadline. However, the team is second in its division, just three games behind the Twins.

However, several teams are likely to have a strong interest in the 30-year-old Venezuelan in the coming months.

We can think of the Tampa Bay Rays for example. They lost the services of Jeffrey Springs a few weeks ago. Now added to that is the loss of Drew Rasmussen, who, after going seven scoreless innings against the Yankees, was just added to the 60-day injured list. Tyler Glasnow remains an uncertain case.

The addition of an Eduardo Rodriguez could do the Rays a lot of good, who still sit first in the Majors with a record of 30 wins and just 10 losses.

The pitcher is in the second year of his five-year, $77 million contract. He has an exit option at the end of the season and if he keeps pitching like that, he should use it.

He could therefore be considered a rental pitcher this summer.
