But did I read and hear correctly?
John Henry, owner of the Boston Red Sox, a legendary club in professional sports around the world, said:
It’s expensive to have baseball players.
John Henry, owner of the Boston Red Sox
Translation: It’s expensive to have baseball players.
He sincerely thinks to teach us something here? Or worse, to attract the sympathy of ordinary mortals, who get up every morning to humbly and modestly earn a living, in the reality of the inflationary world of 2023?
Frankly, Mr. Henry should sincerely have kept a little embarrassment on that one!
Words from a multi-millionaire
No need to recall it, but, for the purposes of the cause, let us recall it. You have to have lots and lots of money in life to own a professional sports team.
Of course, owning a sports team is a luxury. A toy even, for these ultra-rich women and men, who no longer know what to do with their money.
However, do you want me to tell you what is expensive in life for real? The grocery cart for single mothers who want to feed their families. The liter of gas for parents driving their kids to baseball and hockey practices. Mortgage rates for young couples wishing to start a family. And so on. All of this is expensive, but housing, clothing, food, etc., are essential and basic needs according to Maslow’s pyramid. Owning the Red Sox isn’t.
Gone are the days when the late George Steinbrenner said that Yankees fans deserved the best players in the world and that winning was the second most important thing in his life after breathing! Clearly, this mantra does not apply to Mr. Henry…
A prestigious club with passionate supporters
Spider-Man quoted, with great powers comes great responsibility. He was quite right. The Red Sox alone embody the spirit of Boston. Fans are loyal to the team they love so much, from generation to generation. Unfortunately, for the past few seasons, the staff has not tended to return the favor. The fans are disappointed with the management and direction the club is taking. They deserve better and they know it.
John Henry therefore has great responsibilities to all Red Sox fans around the world. If he is not ready to assume his said responsibilities as a man at the top of the pyramid of his training, he has only to pass the torch to someone else who will. .
