Andrew McCutchen’s return to Pittsburgh is a godsend for fans. I won’t forget how he was greeted when I visited the club in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago.
He came on as pinch hitter and I’ve never seen such an engaged crowd…and on every pitch.
Brief. All that to say that the veteran is having a good season for his role, but above all, he brings the leadership that the club needs so that we stop talking about it badly.
And as he hit his 1,500th (and 1,501st) career hit in Pittssburgh yesterday, we are talking about it positively – and it is deserved.
It was then his 37th hit (and his 38th came later in the game) of the season. He really wasn’t far off the mark when he was traded to the Giants in time.
Note that he is currently 14 career hits from the 2,000 mark. So he got about 500 (485) when he was in San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia and Milwaukee.
Note that yesterday, the Pirates won their game against the Texas Rangers by 6-4. The club is currently 25-22 and they have the same record as Milwaukee at the top of the National League powerhouse.
I can’t wait to see him hit his 2000th hit – and I hope it will be at home.
