Is the golf swing different for woods and irons?

In iron play, your UPWARD motion (club’s upward motion) will be more pronounced (than the around motion). i.e. The swing will feel STEEPER. In wood play, you should feel more of an AROUND the body motion – a FLATTER swing. Keep in mind that your BODY is doing the EXACT same thing in both cases.

Also, is the iron swing the same as the driver swing? The main difference in a driver swing vs an iron swing is the way you attack the golf ball. Iron swings must drive down into the ball so that the loft of the club does the work to get the ball off the ground.

Similarly, is the swing plane the same for all clubs? Instead, because every golf club is different lengths (unless you subscribe to the single-length club theory like Bryson DeChambeau) you’ll be forced to swing on a slightly different plane. Ideally, a player’s swing plane will be very similar to their club’s lie angle as well.

Beside the above, do you swing a 3-wood like an iron or driver? Yes, you should hit your 3-wood like an iron – more specifically, a 3 or 4-iron. Your set-up position, including stance and body tilt, should be the same for a 3-wood as a long iron. Your ball position should also be slightly forward of centre when hitting 3-woods and long irons.

Additionally, do you hit a wood like an iron? No good. You want to hit down on it, like an iron. With the ball in the right place, your shoulders will tilt back and your hands will hang below your left ear (right, top). You shouldn’t have to stretch to reach the ball. Most players use a shorter shaft in their three-wood, which will offer greater control and consistency of impact on the face. Most players swing the driver faster, and the ball tends to go farther, so offline shots will go even farther offline with the driver.

What is the correct swing path in golf?

The club should track down to the ball along the target line or from slightly inside of it. It then should move back inside the target line quickly after impact. You’re not cutting across the ball like a traditional open-face wedge shot. This is a medium-trajectory pitch that makes it easier to control distance.

What is a 5 wood equivalent to in irons?

The larger clubhead of a fairway wood compared to an iron makes it easier to achieve more distance without over-swinging. As a rough rule of thumb, a 5 wood would replace a 2 iron, a 7 wood the 3 or 4 iron, a 9 wood the 5 iron.

Do you hit a 5 wood like a driver or iron?

The five wood typically tends to be quite a bit easier to hit. The 3 iron has low loft for an iron, and it is best to use the 5 wood if you want forgiveness. The five wood also has a much larger sweet spot that makes it relatively a bit easier to hit.

Why can I hit my 3 wood farther than my driver?

What is the easiest clubs to hit in golf?

The high lofted clubs such as the wedges and short irons (9, 8, 7 Irons) are the clubs golfers tend to have the most confidence with. With the mid irons, long irons, hybrids and woods, the lines can become slightly more blurred.

Are fairway woods easier to hit than irons?

Fairway woods have shorter shafts, more loft and impart more backspin, making them easier to hit straight and with added control despite their diminutive size when compared to a driver.

Why do I slice my fairway woods?

The cause of a slice with a fairway wood is no different than it is with any other club in the bag. If the ball is curving badly to the right (for a right-handed golfer) as it flies, you are making contact with the club face open relative to the swing path.

Why do I hit my 5 wood farther than my 3 wood?

The majority of average golfers hit their 5 wood farther than their 3 wood because the shaft is shorter and there’s more loft. The higher loft will help get the ball in the air and the shorter shaft will improve consistency.
