Injured for the entire season, Cui Yongxi will not be cut

In Brooklyn, the season of “Jacky Cu”i is already over… Great Chinese hope, Cui Yongxi tore a ligament in his left knee Wednesday in the G-League, and the Nets announced that his season was already over. Aged 21, the winger will have only played 10 minutes in the NBA this season in five short matches, but there is no question of cutting him. This is what explains the New York Post.

While he is in “two-way contract”and that a dismissal would not cost much, the managers are therefore not considering replacing him, and the New York daily sees a reason for this: the Nets will play in Macau in October 2025, and it is essential that the Nets move with him in the squad. Owner Joe Tsai has indicated several times that he wants a Chinese player in the Nets squad, but also in the Liberty squad in the WNBA.

Author of 14 points in the G-League, on the evening of his injury, Cui Yongxi will therefore take his troubles patiently, hoping to be restored next fall for this double confrontation against the Suns.

“It’s clear that we don’t wish that on anyone, but the reality is that it’s part of professional sport” reacted Jordi Fernandez. “We will support him. He will undergo the necessary procedure, and then he will be on the road to recovery. He must remain positive. We have all generally contacted him… He is in a good mood. He's a positive boy. And we're going to do whatever it takes, whatever we can do to help him. It’s also part of life.”

Two-way contract : Designed to create a new bridge between the NBA and the G-League, this type of contract allows each team to secure the services of two or three additional players, to develop them mainly in their affiliated development league franchise but also up to 50 matches in the NBA.
