The NFL will play its very first regular season match in Berlin in 2025. After Munich and Frankfurt, it is the third German city to host an NFL match since 2022. The logic of global (and German) growth of the league continues.
A meeting which will naturally be played at the Olympic stadium in Berlin, a 75,000-seat stadium which was completely renovated in 2004. You will nevertheless have to be patient before knowing the poster, since it will not be revealed for several months. In this expectation, Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL, is in any case delighted with this new stage:
“Germany has a rich tradition of American football and the NFL has a long history with the city of Berlin. We held our first pre-season game at the Olympic Stadium 34 years ago, before it hosted the Berlin Thunder (NFL Europe) in the early 2000s. Today, with nearly 20 million fans In Germany, we will make a historic return to the city by playing a regular season game for the first time, as we open the next chapter in our relationship with Berlin. »
In addition to this game, the NFL will work with the city of Berlin as part of its development program. The aim of this maneuver will be to develop flag football in Berlin schools and clubs.
Berlin, third German city, but still no NFL in France?
55 regular season games have been played worldwide during the history of the NFL. London, Munich, Frankfurt, São Paulo, Mexico City and Toronto have all hosted matches to date, making Berlin the lucky seventh.
For the year 2025, no less than 8 matches must be held abroad. If certain countries such as England (at least 2 matches), Germany (Berlin) and Spain (Madrid) are already guaranteed to obtain the Grail, other countries such as Ireland are waiting their turn. And France? Nothing in sight for the coming year, but a desire which seems to go in this direction. A little more patience…
