Facing a team deprived of Joel Embiid and Paul George, the Clippers started the game very well. The defense is in place, the Sixers are struggling to find space and score, while James Harden distributes the right passes. Nick Nurse's troops are dominated, even almost twenty points behind. Fortunately for them, with a 7-0, they managed to react at the end of the first quarter (27-39).
The Clippers' outside skill decreases and the Sixers manage to block Ivica Zubac, to limit his presence on the offensive rebound.
Even if Tyrese Maxey and his gang seem better in the game, the gap is still the same at halftime (50-62). The second period starts in a similar way to the first: the Clippers defense rules the roost. Kris Dunn and Derrick Jones Jr. are very energetic and so men Tyronn Lue steals balls and can run.
The gap widens quickly, we get closer and then we reach thirty points… When the last act opens, the Sixers are more than stunned (72-97).
Tyrese Maxey's winning basket and Jared McCain's points at the start of the last quarter won't change anything. The Clippers were stronger and logically won 99-125. This is their fifth victory in a row.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– The Clippers’ defense and third quarter. Already dominant in the first period, the Los Angeles players made the difference in the twelve minutes following the break. The defense will stifle the poor Sixers, who finish with 22 points and 5 lost balls. Four of which are explained by interceptions by Kris Dunn and Derrick Jones Jr. At the same time, the Clippers scored 35 points at 70% shooting success. This is the turning point of the match because there was still a little hope of suspense before this moment, but not after that.
– Jared McCain had less fries. He thought he was the Rookie of the Year after his 30-point game against the Nets, but the young player came back down to earth on Sunday night. He certainly scored 18 points but he was clumsy: 3/15 shooting including 2/11 at 3-pts. So, 10 of these points come from free throws. His streak of 20-point matches (seven in a row) therefore comes to an end.
