Stephen Curry's only motivation? Win a fifth title!

What still motivates Stephen Curry ? At 36 years old, the “Splash Brother” has won four titles (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022), two MVP trophies, a Finals MVP trophy and after two world titles (2010 and 2014), he recovered the last something he was missing this summer, with the Olympic title at the 2024 Olympics…

“Honestly (winning a fifth title) is the only thing I’m playing for right now.” he explains like this. “That’s the only thing that matters in terms of accomplishment. »

Even if Stephen Curry assures that he always has fun every day, in training or in matches.

“I still love this game. I still love coming to work every day.” Basketball is always fun for me. The challenge of trying to figure out how to win every night, I always want to take on.”

But what motivates more than anything the Golden State playmaker, whose team is having a very good start to the season, to the point of currently leading the Western Conference (10 wins – 3 losses), is well this quest for the ring. Especially since his first title now dates back more than nine years, and the challenge is evolving.

Join Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan or Magic Johnson

“There are so many things that happen off the field that can discourage or distract you”explains Stephen Curry. “It’s great to try to combat this. The league has changed so much and trying to imagine how Warriors could win a title in the 2024/25 season is totally different from what we were thinking about in 2022. It's totally different from 2017, 2018 or even 2015.

Not to mention that winning a fifth title would place him even higher in history. There are 39 players who have won the title four times, like him, but only 26 have won five titles. He would thus join Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan or even Magic Johnson… while leaving LeBron James behind.

“On the historical aspect of basketball, it’s another level. We're talking about a five-time champion and more. This is a good starting point, but I still want to be greedy. »
