Lions – Jaguars (52-6): Detroit devours Jacksonville

Detroit Lions (8-1) – Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8): 52-6

There was no mystery or suspense during the game. The Lions literally trampled the Jaguars. Behind a perfect Jared Goff (he finished the match with a rating of 158.3), Detroit's skill players largely won their duels, to the point that the offensive squad scored a touchdown on the first seven possessions and produced more than 600 yards (thus beating the club's historic record), and well into the fourth quarter. The defense completely contained Jacksonville, forcing a series of punts, as well as an interception.

Opposite, the Jaguars' ordeal was long and painful. The defense was torn apart, the offense produced almost nothing, and Mac Jones was transparent. The match was purely one-sided. When we think that Doug Pederson's position is sincerely starting to be in danger, an outing of this caliber, even against a big name in the league, could well be the trigger for an expeditious ejection.

The Lions unfold

If Jacksonville concludes its first series with a long-distance field goal, Detroit begins its game with full throttle and never slows down, relying on its trio of stars. David Montgomery (RB, 95 yards, 2 TD) shows his efficiency on the ground and in the air, before calmly crossing the line for the first touchdown of the game. However, the runner did not come to the party alone. Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR, 161 yards, 2 TD) rolls out to receive, and Jahmyr Gibbs (RB, 123 yards, 1 TD) hits before finding the paint for the break.

It must be said that faced with the worst defense in the league, the Lions are struggling. A new series resulted in Montgomery's double, before Gibbs tried to imitate him on a 54-yard breakaway. It's finally St. Brown who goes to the conclusion, but the result is the same: even before halftime, Detroit has more touchdowns than Jacksonville has first downs, and the Lions have already passed the bar. 300 yards of offense. And the overall momentum is in no way transformed when the Jaguars pass a kick just before the whistle. 28-6 when we returned to the locker room.

Detroit brings in the replacements

Things return to their natural course upon returning to the field. On the first series Jameson Williams (WR, 126 yards) escapes 64 yards and crosses the line. It works, it's easy. Same cause, same consequence, Detroit continues its demonstration, this time with a touchdown from Brock Wright (TE) and an interception from Kerby Joseph (S).

Jared Goff (QB, 24/29, 412 yards, 4 TD) continues his almost perfect distribution of the leather, and seems to want each of his skill players to score a double when he once again finds St. Brown in the paint. At this point in the match, Dan Campbell can start to rotate his squad, and takes out Goff and his main players while waiting for the clock to run out. Not to change anything, the replacements do more than keep the clock running, but the mass is said. Detroit produced a high-level demonstration, and by pushing down an opponent who is really not up to the task, continues to show its pretensions.
