Donnie Nelson reaches agreement with Mavericks to drop his complaint

The dispute between Donnie Nelson and the Mavericks is over. The son of the former coach, who served for a long time as GM of the Texan franchise, has thus abandoned his legal proceedings against the club, announce several American media. Donnie Nelson and Dallas have in fact reached an agreement to close the complaint, filed in March 2022 and which was to give rise to a trial on December 10.

A few months after being fired from his position by the Mavericks, Donnie Nelson attacked them for unfair dismissal, claiming that his nephew had been sexually assaulted by a Dallas executive.

It is following this report to the bosses of the franchise that Donnie Nelson claims to have been removed from his duties. Last Thursday, the former president of basketball operations and GM of the Mavericks finally dropped the charges. On Monday, it was his lawyer, Rogge Dunn, who communicated about a confidential agreement for “a solution to their differences”.

The Dallas franchise has confirmed at The Athletic the existence of this agreement, without specifying its terms.

Enough to put an end to this dispute through the media in any case, with the Mavericks speaking of an extortion attempt on the part of their former leader. The latter was notably the builder of the NBA champion team in 2011, and had also contributed shortly after his arrival in the franchise to Dirk Nowitzki's Draft.
