Faced with mockery, Dwyane Wade defends the appearance of his statue

The “Who is this guy?” » by Dwyane Wade during the presentation of his statue, in front of the Kaseya Center, has already made the rounds on the Web and social networks. Because the statue has been the subject of a lot of mockery, particularly in relation to its relative resemblance to the club legend.

The person concerned, who was involved in the process of creating the work, was therefore forced to defend himself, explaining that the statue represents a moment, a celebration “This is my house”, rather than a face.

“If I wanted her to look like me, I would stand directly outside the room and you could take pictures”he said. “She doesn't have to look like me.” It’s the artistic version of a moment that happened and that we’re trying to remember.”

Even bad publicity is publicity…

However, it was Dwyande Wade's face that was the main point of mockery. If the turn of events seems to affect it, the idea now is to use this “bad buzz” to get the work discovered.

“On the one hand, it affects me, on the other it doesn’t”, he added. “The world of social media is made up of opinions. Everyone has an opinion. Use your opinions. Please tell more about us. Talk more about the statue, come see it, take photos, send memes. We don't care. »

Dwyane Wade said he laughed at a few barbs, like when he read that the statue looked more like Laurence Fishburne than him. He still took the time to defend the sculptors, from the “Rotblatt Amranty” studio, based in Chicago, who spent around 800 hours to achieve this result.

“I don’t know many people who have a statue. Do you know any? It’s an incredible process and it’s great to be a part of. At the same time, it’s a complicated process”he stressed. “Every time they create something, there is someone to say something about their creations while they are incapable of doing the same. I know how it feels because I'm a former athlete. People talked a lot about me, but no one could do what I do. So, we learn to laugh about it and move forward no matter what. »
