Points, rebounds, assists… Year after year, Alperen Sengun was able to boost his averages spectacularly. Except in two columns where his production dropped slightly between his second and third season.
“ I want to correct the shooting on my free throws », announces the pivot of the Rockets, asked about his goals for the upcoming season. After two first seasons with an average 71% success rate, it fell below the 70% mark, to post a more modest 69.3%.
Good news for him, he started his preseason with an impeccable 15/16 throws. This is no coincidence. This success comes the day after an intense offseason devoted to the issue.

“ It's just a matter of discipline. Cam (Hodges, assistant) and I worked all summer. If I missed my shot, I would sprint. It’s about mindset, discipline, keeping your hands on, all of that. The positioning too. Last year I had a lot of bad positions when I was shooting. My shoulder was back. Now I try to make the same shot every time », analyzes Alperen Sengun.
The latter, by extension, hopes to increase his skill percentage behind the arc. During his second season, he had a 33% success rate, before falling below 30% last year (29.7%). Progressing in this sector would, for example, allow the Rockets to align him with Steven Adams, who does not have this weapon.
And there is no doubt that by progressing in these two sectors, while increasing his general production a little, he will achieve his third objective of the season: obtaining a first selection in the All-Star Game. Provided, of course, that the Rockets' results follow on a collective level…
