The Commanders didn't just lose a game to Baltimore this weekend. Washington will have to spend the rest of its season without its star, Jonathan Allen.
The defensive tackle was injured during the game. The first feedback was rather optimistic. To reassure itself, the franchise had the player undergo an MRI. And the result was not what was expected. Jonathan Allen has been diagnosed with a torn pectoral according to ESPN. A serious injury requiring an operation and synonymous with the end of the season.
Bad timing for everyone
This injury is a brutal blow to all parties. Washington loses its defensive leader. Chosen in the first round of the 2017 draft by the franchise, Jonathan Allen has become a real cornerstone. In 107 games with the Commanders, the defensive lineman accumulated 397 tackles including 59 tackles for loss and 41 sacks.
This season, Allen had already brought down the opposing quarterback twice. He won't be able to improve on this mark and maybe never again for the Commanders. Because Jonathan Allen is currently in the last year of his contract. He has $17 million left for this year, an unguaranteed amount he wouldn't see if the franchise decided to cut him.
