Anthony Edwards and Naz Reid spoil Paul George's Sixers debut
October 12, 2024
Like Klay Thompson, Paul George will have waited for the second match of his new formation to make his debut. And like Klay Thompson, it resulted in a defeat (121-111 against the Wolves). But like Klay Thompson, “PG8” seduced as he scored 23 points on 8 out of 15 shots in 26 minutes, and we will notably remember a sequence with eight points in a row. No doubt, Paul George is already in good shape. Ditto for Tyrese Maxey (21 points) and Andre Drummond (10 points, 15 rebounds).
But the Sixers trio still lost to the Wolves, who were deprived of Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert. The fault in particular lies with Anthony Edwards, who also made his debut this season. The Olympic champion scored 11 points in a row in the second quarter to allow Minnesota to reach the break with a 17-point lead (70-53). At his side, Donte DiVincenzo has already demonstrated his 3-point skill, while Naz Reid is still “the 6th starter” for the Wolves with his 19 points on 7 of 12 shots.
In this meeting contested at Des Moines in Iowa, Chris Finch pleased the crowd by restarting his starters at the start of the second half, before finally calling them back to the bench, and letting the youngsters and the usual substitutes secure the victory.
