[NCAA] Week 5 – The Carson Beck Roller Coaster (Georgia)

Every Sunday, the DNA of Sports editorial team offers you an update on the NCAA championship and the players eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft.

The flop of week 5 NCAA – Carson Beck (QB, Georgia)

His game (at Alabama): 27/50, 439 yards, 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 1 lost fumble

His first period is a nightmare where he doesn't seem on the same line as his teammates. The latter don't help him either, but the observation is there. Carson Beck has shown some irregularity, and that could cool some NFL staffs.

Manhandled by the Alabama defense, he made multiple bad choices. Bad passes and bad reads, interceptions, nothing was going his way. The icing on the cake is the end of his first period which he ends with a penalty for a bad throw (intentional grounding), thus costing his team 2 points.

His 2nd period was much better, where he didn't come far from a resounding comeback, throwing 3 touchdowns. Unfortunately, his last interception ends Georgia's last hopes, leading to their defeat.

The problem is that when you are considered one of the best prospects at the quarterback position, it is in this type of meeting that you have to show all your qualities to start every Sunday. Georgia's number 15 still has a lot of games to convince. But, he has just burned another wild card if his goal is to be the next number 1 in the Draft.

Could have been mentioned: Jalon Daniels (QB, Kansas), Tai Felton (WR, Maryland), Mitchell Evans (TE, Notre Dame), Oscar Delp (TE, Georgia), Ewan Stewart (WR, Oregon), Malaki Starks (S , Georgia), Patrick Payton (EDGE, Florida State)

NCAA Player of the Week 5 – Ashton Jeanty (RB, Boise State)

His game (against Washington State): 26 carries, 259 yards, 4 touchdowns
On his blue field, the Boise State Broncos runner is having a dream start to the season.

The question we ask ourselves is where will it stop? In 4 matches, Ashton Jeanty does not waste his time. The powerful runner has already totaled more than 800 yards rushing this season, and 13 touchdowns. Opposite, the defense of the Washington State Cougars never finds the solution to stop him, finding themselves congratulating him through his coach Jack Dickert.

There could be no words to describe his start to the season. Merciless, giant, resistant, Jeanty panics the NCAA, and could panic the NFL. In any case, the runner crushes all his opponents, and should once again increase his already very high rating.

In an excellent crop of runners, the first runner called up next April could no longer be a debate if Ashton Jeanty continues to achieve performances of this type on a regular basis.

Players of the Week 5 – Honorable Mentions

  • Jalen Milroe (QB, Alabama): 27/33, 16 carries, 491 yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception
  • Cameron Ward (QB, Miami (FL)): 24/38, 10 carries, 400 yards, 5 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 1 lost fumble
  • Xavier Watts (S, Notre Dame): 3 tackles, 2 passes defended, 1 interception
  • Deone Walker (DT, Kentucky): 4 tackles, 0.5 sack
  • Mason Graham (DT, Michigan): 4 tackles, 2 sacks

Two dual-threat quarterbacks, but with very different styles.

Jalen Milroe shows incredible composure in the pocket to find Ryan Williams for the winning touchdown. His incredible first period erases a very discreet second period. Regularity over the duration of a match remains to be worked on. But, he has arguments to be among the nominees for the best university player trophy (Heisman Trophy). Cameron Ward performs miracles with Miami against Virginia Tech. Despite 3 turnovers, the Hurricanes quarterback showed determination to lead his team to victory.

Xavier Watts is still in a good position. The safety makes his 2nd interception of the season. The Notre Dame player could take advantage of the poor performances of competitors at his position to be the first safety called up during the next Draft.

Finally, they are the bosses of the trenches. Both players put in top performances.

Deone Walker constantly puts pressure on Jaxson Dart (QB, Ole Miss). Even blocked by 3 players, he always manages to find a door to get the quarterback. Mason Graham is relentless. His determination and his duo with Kenneth Grant offer a new victory to the Michigan Wolverines over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. With this type of performance, the top 5 of the Draft could reach out to him.

Could have been mentioned: Kalel Mullings (RB, Michigan), Nicholas Singleton (RB, Penn State), Travis Hunter (WR/CR, Colorado), Nic Scourton (EDGE, Texas A&M), Billy Bowman (S, Oklahoma), Harold Fannin Jr. (TE, Bowling Green), Emeka Egbuka (WR, Ohio State), Sonny Styles (S, Ohio State), Kenneth Grant (DT, Michigan), Tre Harris (WR, Ole Miss), Tez Johnson (WR, Oregon)

The revelation of week 5 NCAA – DJ Giddens (RB, Kansas State)

His game (against Oklahoma State): 15 carries, 209 yards, 2 touchdowns

His long-distance duel against Ollie Gordon II (RB, Oklahoma State) was expected, and he more than responded. DJ Giddens delivers his best performance of the season. His duo with Avery Johnson (QB, Kansas State) hurt the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

A runner of good size, and quite powerful (1.85m, 96 kgs), the Wildcat notably scored a 66-yard touchdown, allowing his team to widen the gap before halftime. With this type of performance against a ranked team, the running back hopes to have scored points with NFL recruiters in order to be drafted.

A starter for 3 seasons at Kansas State, Giddens had a top-notch last season. Taking over from Deuce Vaughn, today at the… Dallas Cowboys, he scored 13 touchdowns, with 1,226 yards in 223 carries. The runner doesn't just know how to find gaps to run, he also knows how to make landings.

A good route runner, he can emerge as a number 2 or 3 option in a future NFL running committee.

Week 5 Revelation – Honorable Mentions

  • Bhayshul Tuten (RB, Virginia Tech): 19 carries, 141 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Star Thomas (RB, Duke): 30 carries, 211 yards, 2 touchdowns
  • Dane Key (WR, Kentucky): 8 receptions, 105 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Donovan Ezeiraku (EDGE, Boston College): 14 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble
  • Kobe Wilson (LB, MSU): 7 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception (1 TD)

Single-handedly, he shakes the defense of the Hurricanes and his coach Mario Cristobal. Virginia Tech runner Bhayshul Tuten is small in size, but big in performance. 5th consecutive game with a touchdown for him, and a chance to see him drafted which could open up.

He's not a star yet, but at least he already has the first name. Duke Star runner Thomas takes advantage of the absence of holder Jaquez Moore to show off against the enemy North Carolina.

In a less stocked crop of receivers than in previous years, Dane Key could be one of the surprises of the 3rd day. The receiver has size and reliable hands. He was missing more than a touchdown, it's done, and not against just any opponent, the Ole Miss Rebels.

8 sacks for him already this season. This statistic is not a guarantee of being drafted, but at least it helps attract the curiosity of certain NFL staff. Donovan Ezeiruaku is the leader of an amazing Boston College defense, and could use a little more attention.

SMU lays down the law against Florida State of a DJ Uigalelei in distress. The man on this defense is named Kobe Wilson. If his first name could make you think of a basketball legend, he can make his own legend next April by being called up by one of the 32 NFL teams.

Could have been mentioned: Hajj-Malik Williams (QB, UNLV), Blake Horvath (QB, UNLV), Alonza Barnett III (QB, James Madison), Kyle Monangai (RB, Rutgers), R. Mason Thomas (EDGE, Oklahoma) , Jason Williams (DT, Central Michigan), Coleman Owen (WR, Ohio), Lance LeGendre (WR, Louisiana), Skyler Bell (WR, UConn), Jackson Meeks (WR, Syracuse), Elijah Sarratt (WR, Indiana), David Vann (EDGE, NC State), Mason Cobb (LB, USC)

NCAA Week 5 Summary

The clash between Georgia (2) and Alabama (4) keeps all its promises. The final word goes to the Crimson Tide players. New Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer wins his first intra-conference game.

Second start for Arch Manning (QB, Texas), and second victory for him. While awaiting the scheduled return of Quinn Ewers next week, Texas (1) won its first game in the SEC conference against Mississippi State. Ohio State (3) has no problem on Michigan State's field, with another top-notch performance from freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. On the other hand, Ole Miss (6) was surprised by Kentucky at home.

A few days earlier, Miami (FL) (7) miraculously beat Wilfried Pene's Virginia Tech (1 tackle), and remained undefeated. Oregon (8) has no problem on the road against UCLA. No more difficulties either for Michigan (12), USC (13) and LSU (14).

Two other matches pit 2 ranked teams against each other, in addition to Alabama against Georgia. Notre Dame (16) won at home against Louisville (15) 31-24, and Kansas State (23) ruled the roost against Oklahoma State (20) 42-20. Manhandled by Auburn, Oklahoma (21) is coping and is confident before facing their enemies Texas next week.

Finally, BYU (22) remains undefeated by winning against Baylor, and moves to the top of the Big 12 conference. Texas A&M (24) has difficulties, but snatches victory against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Among other results, the Duke versus North Carolina basketball classic goes to the advantage of the Blue Devils. However, the Tar Heels led 20-0, but ultimately lost 21-20. James Madison continues to perform well offensively. After the 70 points against… North Carolina, they passed 63 points to Ball State.

Shaken by the departure of several players during the week, the University of UNLV in Las Vegas was not disrupted on the field. The Rebels won 59-14 against Fresno State, and remained undefeated this season.

Action of week 5

He is 17 years old! It's already a phenomenon. That player, Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams. Let's wait another 2 years before seeing him join the NFL big boards. But, the sample he shows is already impressive. Author of the winning touchdown against Georgia, the receiver never ceases to amaze us.

If you haven't seen it live, we recommend the replay of a fantastic match.
