Trent Brown, 31, signed a one-year contract with the Bengals this offseason after spending 3 years with the Patriots. During his 9 years in the NFL, the player has proven that he is one of the most solid tackles in the league when he is in shape. Unfortunately, the player has suffered many injuries throughout his career. This is also one of the reasons why the Ohio franchise was able to sign him at such a low price ($4.75 million per year).
This new injury means that first-round rookie Amarius Mims will be propelled into the starting lineup. Drafted with the prospect of being developed behind Brown for a year, he will rise faster than expected. For the veteran, this injury is likely (already) synonymous with the end of his adventure in Ohio. While Mims should take a permanent place on the offensive line, Brown will likely leave as a free agent at the end of the season.
Playoff hopes completely gone in Cincinnati?
When they were still 0-2, the Bengals could point out that they always start slowly with Joe Burrow at the helm. Now, Cincy is 0-3 and has just lost its starting right tackle. With such a start, only five teams have reached the playoffs since 1980, and none have repeated the feat since 1999. Still, Joe Burrow remains confident.
“It’s an exciting opportunity, as every season is. There are some big games down the stretch that we have to deliver. We haven’t played a division opponent yet, the Steelers are 3-0, everyone else is 1-2, we’re 0-3. We still have those six games to go, and we’re not out of the running.”
