It is one of the most recognizable logos in the world. A silhouette of a basketball player dribbling on a blue and red background. The player is in white, and stands out perfectly. At his feet, three letters: N – B – A. Since 1969, the NBA logo has been worn by Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson, LeBron James or Stephen Curry in the same form.
It has only been touched up once, and very lightly. That was in 2017. But with the exception of this discreet touch-up, there is no question of changing what has become the identity of the NBA, and especially a brand that is sold around the world.
How did the legendary NBA logo come about? Which player is on it and could it ever change?
This is what we are telling you today in Histoire(s) de basket.
