“Above The Noise,” DeMar DeRozan’s First Book

September 10 will be a big day in the career of DeMar DeRozanand for once, it's not for a feat accomplished on a basketball court. Above The Noise, My Story of Chasing Calm“, this is the name of the first book of the new Kings player, between memoir and autobiography. This book prefaced by Gregg Popovich was part of the therapy of the rear to face the challenges related to his mental health, a theme of which he has become the spokesperson in the NBA since 2018, at the time of the All-Star Game.

It is necessarily a subject that will accompany the book from beginning to end, punctuated by all the great adventures experienced by DeMar DeRozan during his life, from his childhood in poverty in the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles, from the loss of close friends because of the gang war, to his successes and adventures in the NBA, from his Draft in 2009 to today, fifteen years later.

Finding Strength in Vulnerability

“I'm just trying to reach out to everyone who feels alone, more than anything.”he said, explaining why he took up the pen. “Anyone who feels like they’re alone, and who feels like the struggles they’re facing are too great. Showing that it’s possible to get through it, and also encouraging them to be vulnerable and find strength in that vulnerability, and showing that it’s an ongoing journey.”

It was in the midst of the turmoil, between the birth of his daughter and his departure from Canada to Texas, that DeMar DeRozan finally rose from the ashes by publicly discussing his problems with depression. Today, many players are speaking out on the subject, and this is undoubtedly one of his greatest victories.

“It’s become normal to hear guys talk about their struggles and the things they’ve had to deal with. Whether it’s a trade, high expectations that weren’t met, a family situation they were going through while they were playing, what happened when the money came in, you’re starting to see more and more of those stories.”he also recalled.
