Steelers: Russell Wilson uncertain

Officially, Russell Wilson (QB, Steelers) has won the starting job in Pittsburgh. But that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be on the field this Sunday to face the Falcons.

On Thursday, Wilson re-aggravated the calf injury that has hampered him for much of training camp in practice. He is officially listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

On Friday, in front of the press, he was rather vague.

“It was just a little stiff. I want to handle it smart. I hope to play Sunday, but I'm trying to be ready, we're doing everything we can.”

Bengals: Ja'Marr Chase or not?

Ja'Marr Chase (WR, Bengals) is officially doubtful for the Bengals' opener this Sunday. Not because of an injury, but because he skipped most of summer practice and still wants a new contract.

According to ESPN, as of Saturday night, the decision on whether or not he will participate in the game against the Patriots has still not been made.

Roger Goodell hopes for 16 international matches per season

Brazil on Saturday. Spain next season. Roger Goodell still wants more international matches.

“The owners have already approved 8 per season,” the NFL boss told reporters in Brazil. “I hope we get to 16 someday in the future. We'll see.”

Injuries

– Kyle Van Noy (OLB, Ravens) suffered an orbital floor fracture this Thursday against the Chiefs. The duration of his absence is still uncertain.

– Despite a torn medial collateral ligament in his knee, DeAndre Hopkins (WR, Titans) has returned to practice and is expected to play well this Sunday against the Bears. (ESPN)

In short

Browns believe in DeShaun Watson

Despite average performances (at best) since his arrival in Ohio, Ken Dorsey (offensive coordinator, Browns) is full of praise for DeShaun Watson:

“He looks like the guy we've seen in the past. He's going to make some exceptional plays for us, things that absolutely nobody in the league can do.”

A guaranteed $250 million contract for 14 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 12 games (his stats in 2023) is exceptional, in a way.
