Heat extends young talent through 2026

Unsurprisingly, and more than a month in advance, AP announces that the Heat has activated the clauses of the “rookie” contracts of Jaime Jaquez Jr. and of Nikola Jovic. For the first, this is his 3rd year of contract, and he will receive 3.8 million dollars. A true “steal” of the 2023 Draft, the former UCLA winger quickly established himself in the rotation to the point of averaging 11.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1 interception. It was when he was absent that we could see his importance in Miami's game.

Selected in the best five rookie of the year, and it was a first in 15 years in Miami, Jaquez Jr. was then invited to the Team USA camp in the “Select Team”. With Caleb Martin gone to the Sixers, Jaquez should take even more volume this season.

For Jovic, the Heat activated his 4th and final year of contract, and he will earn $4.5 million in 2025/26. A 41-time starter if we count the playoffs, Jovic has again seen his season (and even the preparation for the Olympic Games) spoiled by injuries. His versatility and aggressiveness appeal to Erik Spoelstra who pairs him with Bam Adebayo to start games.
