Ayesha and Stephen Curry invest $25 million to fight illiteracy

This is the day when Stephen Curry extended his contract with the Warriors for a one-year, $62.6 million deal as he and his wife Ayesha announced they had raised an additional $25 million to fight childhood literacy in Oakland, the largest investment since they founded their joint foundation.

According to a press release issued by their foundation Eat. Learn. Play.the money will be used to provide reading and writing tutoring to about 10,000 elementary school students in the Oakland Unified School District over the next five years.

Academic support to build confidence

Last September, the foundation committed to raising and investing $50 million in resources for Oakland students by the end of the 2025-26 school year.

“When we launched Eat. Learn. Play. five years ago, we wanted to provide opportunities so that every student in Oakland has the resources they need to be healthy and thrive.”, wrote the couple. “This commitment is about more than just closing the literacy gap: it’s about giving these children the confidence to succeed in all areas of life. We’ve seen first-hand the impact this level of academic support can have on a child’s development, and we hope we can help close the literacy gap and inspire reading for a generation of students.”
