GG Jackson breaks his foot!

The season has not even started yet and the Grizzlies have already been struck by fate… The franchise has announced that GG Jackson fractured his right foot while training in Dallas. The young Memphis winger (19 years old!) will go under the knife, and he will miss the training camp and probably the start of the season.

“While playing basketball outside of Dallas on August 27, after attempting a contested layup, Jackson II landed poorly on his right foot,” write the Grizzlies in a press release. “The MRI revealed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in the right foot that requires surgery.”

A cursed franchise

The “fifth metatarsal fracture” is also known as a “Jones fracture”, and in concrete terms, it is a fracture located on the top of the foot, near the little finger. In the past, a few stars have suffered from this injury, whether it is Kevin Durant, Brook Lopez or even CJ McCollum and JJ Jackson, and the unavailability can range from six weeks to… six months! For example, JJ Jackson was injured in June 2022, and he returned to the courts in mid-November.

In any case, there is little chance that Jackson will be recovered for the start of the season, and it is already a hard blow for the Grizzlies, who are coming off a season ruined by injuries (Morant, Clarke, Smart, Adams, Bane…). Named in the Second All-Rookie Team, Jackson was the revelation of the team last season with an average of 14.8 points!
