Since 2015, a year after the death of the former French basketball legend, the FFBB has rewarded the best French basketball player of the year with the Alain Gilles trophy.
Nando De Colo (2015, 2016), Céline Dumerc (2017), Fabien Causeur (2018), Rudy Gobert (2019), Nicolas Batum (2021) and Laëtitia Guapo (2022) were crowned before Victor Wembanyama, holder of the trophy since 2023.
Voting is now open to designate the best of 2024, the Olympic year. There are twelve candidates and among the favorites, we find Victor Wembanyama, rookie of the year in the NBA and silver medalist in Paris, or Gabby Williams, now in the WNBA and who stunnered during the Olympic Games, notably in the final against Team USA.
Perhaps Rudy Gobert, once again elected NBA defender of the year, or Guershon Yabusele and Mathias Lessort, excellent with the Blues (and winner of the Euroleague for the latter), will manage to create a surprise and leave with the Alain Gilles trophy.
The public vote will count for one vote. The rest will be the results of the eleven voters (five media representatives, six from basketball institutions such as the FFBB, the LNB).
Who will succeed Victor Wembanyama? #TropheeAlainGilles
