Chet Holmgren denies rivalry with Victor Wembanyama

Author of a very good first season in the NBA, after a blank year due to injury, Chet Holmgren averaged 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks on a very competitive team. In a world without Victor Wembanyama, the Thunder center would have logically been elected rookie of the year.

But the Frenchman crushed everything and since the two young talents play in the same position, they have started a rivalry that could be exciting to follow in the coming years. Well, for fans and observers, because the Oklahoma City player is not in that frame of mind.

Last month he had already said that he would not grant “as much importance as that” to this duel against the silver medalist at the 2024 Olympic Games. He confirms at the microphone from Paul George's podcast.

A duel that has no particular meaning for him

“I don't want to get into a duel and make it something it's not,” he assures once again. “It's all about winning games. I don't want to make it a one-on-one thing. Yes, there is competition, there is when you play a very good player, but I'm not changing my plans just because we play Spurs.”

While there is a special energy when the two face off, which Paul George confirms to his interlocutor, Chet Holmgren insists that it is linked to the classic competition between players.

“It's probably because we're competitors,” he answers. “But people wonder if we're in trouble. But no, it's competition. For me, a fight is fighting. Why should I be on bad terms with him? I don't even know him.”
