Caitlin Clark erases 26-year-old record!

Like Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark already has her name in the WNBA history books, and tonight, in the Fever's win over the Storm, the All-Star guard broke the single-season assists record for a rookie. With 232 assists since the start of the season, Clark has wiped out Ticha Penicheiro's 224 assists. That was in 1998 and Clark wasn't even born yet!

“When you look at her highlights, you can see that she was clearly a better passer than me.” Clark acknowledged. “She had more of a nose for the game. She would turn around and make crazy passes. Personally, I just run in transition, throw the ball and hope for the best.”

The absolute record in his sights

Very respectful and very modest, the rookie is the best passer in the championship with her 8.3 average passes, and under her leadership, the Fever is on the way to returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. It only took her 28 matches to beat Penicheiro's record and she has 12 matches left to take it to exceptional heights. Twelve matches that could also allow her to beat the record for passes in a season, held by Alyssa Thomas (Sun), with 316 passes.

If someone had told me that I would dominate the league in passing as a rookie, I probably would have called you liars…” she continues. “But it’s something that’s really close to my heart. I want to help my teammates first and foremost, because that’s what allows the team to be the best. I’m always looking for my partners in transition, that’s where I tend to flourish the most.”
