It won't solve the problems at quarterback, but Stephon Gilmore is coming in to help the Vikings.
ESPN reports that the cornerback has signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota franchise. The deal is worth $10 million, including $7 million guaranteed. His agent confirmed the amounts to our colleagues.
Gilmore will be reuniting with an old friend. Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores was on the Patriots' coaching staff for two of the cornerback's four seasons there.
Stephon Gilmore, Big Budget Traveler
With this arrival at the Vikings, Stephon Gilmore will know his fifth team in five years! Last year, he was with the Cowboys, with 68 tackles and 2 interceptions. Before that, it was the Colts (2022), Panthers (2021) and Patriots (2020).
The common thread between all these places, outside of the Cowboys, is a perilous situation at the pitching position and franchises that are quite far from aiming for the title. But outside of his campaign in Carolina, always salaries above 10 million per season.
Gilmore will turn 34 in September. He had surgery in the offseason to repair a torn labrum (shoulder) after a strong season in Dallas. He will be a valuable addition to a cornerback group that includes Shaquill Griffin, Byron Murphy and several young players.
A 2019 Patriots selection, Gilmore was a two-time first-team All-Pro selection.
