Tampa Bay continues to strengthen its executives.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are keen on Tristan Wirfs and they're letting him know. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the two sides reached an agreement today on a five-year, $140.63 million contract extension for the left tackle, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history. The deal also includes $88.24 million guaranteed.
Tristan Wirfs, a three-time Pro Bowler in his four NFL seasons, was in the final year of his rookie contract. Drafted in the first round of the 2020 Draft by the Buccaneers, Wirfs immediately established himself as a starter in the Florida offensive line. First on the right side, then repositioned to the left during 2023, he is now Baker Mayfield's main protector. The lineman is now tied to Tampa Bay until 2029.
Stability, the key word for the offseason for the Buccaneers
After successfully extending Baker Mayfield in March, this is the second contract over $100 million the Buccaneers have signed this offseason. They also signed Antoine Winfield Jr. to a four-year, $84.1 million contract, making him the NFL's highest-paid safety, and signed wide receiver Mike Evans to a two-year, $41 million deal.
