Kawhi Leonard: “I'm going to keep moving forward until I can't anymore”

Team USA training camp has begun and Kawhi Leonard is present, in uniform. Doubts existed since the Clippers winger finished the season and the playoffs in the infirmary, because of his right knee, as very often in recent years.

“I took my time and was able to turn things around over the last two weeks.”, confirms the playerwatched over by his coach, Tyronn Lue, assistant to Steve Kerr in the American selection. “I'm here and I'm having a good time” he continues, while he also says he is relieved to be able to participate in the Olympic Games.

Yet Kawhi Leonard seemed to have returned to form this season, playing 68 games in the regular season. His biggest total since the 2016-17 season, his last before the onset of injuries.

I wish I was in a different situation but that's the way things are.”

So, he has only played 298 regular season matches (out of more than 550) since October 2017, and above all, his playoffs have always been weighed down by his physical problems since 2021. How does he deal with this frustration?

“It’s just my journey, so it doesn’t matter… I can’t write the perfect script for me. Last season, I tried to play as much as possible, I felt good. But there were moments when I couldn’t. I did my best, but that’s how it is. I would like to be in a different situation but that’s how it is.”

Not defeated, the double MVP of the Finals (2014 and 2019) is dealing with it and has no intention of giving up.

“A lot of people look at me, support me or doubt me, but I motivate people,” he also advances. “I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing. There are worse people than me. Keeping going is going to motivate another player who's watching me. I'm going to keep going, until I can't do it anymore.”
