Third Assistant Joins JJ Redick's Staff

Son of former Kings and Warriors coach Garry St. Jean, Greg St. Jean is, according to Hoopshypethe third assistant hired by the Lakers to support JJ Redick. Much less experienced than Scott Brooks and Nate McMillan, hired midweek, St. Jean has the advantage of knowing the Lakers well, and even some players on the roster since he was an assistant in Los Angeles in 2020, the year of the last title.

Aged 43, he has quite a bit of experience since he started as a video manager in 2013 with the Kings, before becoming an assistant at St. John's in the NCAA from 2015 to 2019. It was there that Frank Vogel found him to make him his assistant at the Lakers. He remained two seasons as a training manager and scout.

Jason Kidd picked him up when he arrived in Dallas, and he even coached the Mavericks in the summer league. In 2023, Frank Vogel asked him to join the Suns, and the franchise terminated his contract after the change of coach, and the arrival of Mike Budenholzer.
