“I can't say much since discussions aren't possible until July 1, but Derrick White has had a remarkable season. He's very, very important to our team and we want to keep him as long as possible.”
Everything was said by Brad Stevens, the president of the Celtics, in April. Now that it is July 1st, the Boston franchise and the rear have been able, as expected, to agree to continue the adventure together.
ESPN announces that the former Spurs will extend his contract for four additional seasons, with the maximum amount up for grabs, i.e. $125.9 million. So here is Derrick White under contract with the 2024 champions until 2029, with the last year optional.

A deserved extension as the fullback has been invaluable since his arrival in Boston and even more so this season, in winning the title. He averaged 15.2 points (40% 3-point shooting), 5.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 1 steal per game, being voted to the second defensive team of the regular season. He then confirmed in the playoffs, with decisive winning shots and important defensive actions.
What's next for the Celtics, to come full circle with their hard core and even if it will cost a lot of money and burden finances, is a record contract extension ($315 million) for Jayson Tatum.
