Before cutting Chris Paul, the Warriors received a call from the Bulls. Chicago management offered them the chance to get the last year of Chris Paul's contract, or Andrew Wiggins, in exchange for Zach LaVine. Since Golden State is going to lose Klay Thompson, it was a great alternative, and they still refused!
“I was told the Bulls were trying to do something with the Warriors”explained Chris Haynes, theTNT insider. “They were trying to put together a package with Zach LaVine. What I was told was it could have been a Zach LaVine for a Chris Paul or an Andrew Wiggins. The Warriors, from what I was told, didn't think that was a good enough piece to structure a trade. Things didn't work out as planned, and Mike Dunleavy called Chris Paul and said he was cutting him.”
Clearly, the Bulls wanted other elements than Paul or Wiggins to send LaVine to the Warriors, and on the Golden State side, it was estimated that LaVine, alone, was not very interesting. But it confirms that the Bulls are on the lookout for the slightest opportunity, and for the moment, no team wants to recover a very fragile player with such a huge contract.
