Pistons think they can fix Ron Holland's shooting

With his injury, which shortened his season, and the very poor collective performances of the Ignite Team, Ron Holland was complicated to place in this 2024 Draft. Finally, and somewhat to everyone's surprise, it was the Pistons, with their fifth choice, who decided to bet on him.

This 1m99 winger is a superb athlete, a sharp player, an excellent defender, who was coming off a season averaging 19.5 points.

“I am very comfortable with this young man to my left”, begins the president of the franchiseTrajan Langdon. “We talk about the important things we can bring to our culture, to our franchise, to our city, through free agency, trades or the draft and, as I've said, he checks all the boxes. He can bring things at a very high level, right now.”

This is not the case with his outside shoot. He only shot 24% on 3-pointers in the G-League and has a lot of progress to make in this area. He is aware of it. “I'm confident in my shooting. The numbers show that I'm not a shooter, but I'm not worried. I've seen myself shoot well, and also shoot less well. As soon as I'm consistent, I'll be one of the best shooters.”announces Ron Holland.

Isn't it worrying for a Detroit team, already very clumsy this season, to recruit a player so ineffective behind the arc? “We didn't hire Fred Vinson by chance. If he makes shots, he'll be a big player.”replies Trajan Langdon in reference to the arrival of the shooting specialist from New Orleans.

Ron Holland also takes as examples Mikal Bridges and Jaylen Brown, the MVP of the 2024 Finals. Two players who are not great shooters, but remain effective and real threats in this area. And if the Pistons have a Bridges or a Brown in their hands, they will not have missed their shot in 2024.

“Ron embodies what is expected of our players here in Detroit, for the fans and the city. He is a hard worker, a competitor, a young man of character,” list the president. “We think he will have an impact on both ends of the pitch. He's scary in transition. He has the qualities to help our team progress in the future. That's what we're looking for. Players who defend and think about the team above all. »
