A week after being named coach of the Lakers, JJ Redick still has not hired any assistants. The former Clippers shooter is making multiple phone calls, and many names have already been mentioned such as those of Sam Cassell, Rajon Rondo and Scott Brooks. To these names, Mark Stein adds two.
They are Dwane Casey and Jacque Vaughn. Like Scott Brooks, they have head coach experience, and it is one of the Lakers' priorities to support JJ Redick who is just starting out in the profession.
At 67 years old, Dwane Casey is the most experienced of all since he has been on the NBA benches since 1994! After starting as an assistant with the Sonics, he coached the Wolves, the Raptors and the Pistons in 2005 and 2023. A year ago, he chose to take a step back and become a manager with the Pistons.
As for Jacque Vaughn, he is one of the “disciples of Gregg Popovich”, and he has coached for the Magic and the Nets. Cut during the season by the leaders of Brooklyn, he is used to the assistant position.
