Kentavious Caldwell-Pope targeted by the Sixers and the Magic?

The situation of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is complex for Denver. The player has a final year option at $15.4 million. And he would be ready to give it up to extend with the Nuggets. Who, for their part, are ready to go into the red financially to maintain it. “KCP has been an excellent recruit over the last two years and we would like him to stay”announced GM Calvin Booth.

But will this extension be enough for the rear? And then, the 2023 champions will have urgent matters to manage in 2025, with Jamal Murray and surely Aaron Gordon.

So, it is possible that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will not activate his last year of contract to become free and thus seek a contract elsewhere. And if this is the case, two franchises would be very interested: Philadelphia and Orlando, explains Marc Stein.

This is not surprising since the Sixers are looking for players capable of supporting Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, and “KCP” has the perfect profile for that – a solid shooter and defender – which he already occupied in Los Angeles, behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis, then in Denver, alongside Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

A “3&D” would also be valuable for the Magic, who need a 3-point threat, but also experience since Orlando is also targeting Klay Thompson. For the record, since 2020, only two players have won multiple titles: Jrue Holiday, champion with Milwaukee in 2021 and Boston in 2024, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, in 2020 with the Lakers then in 2023 with the Nuggets.
