Will Tom Thibodeau lose an assistant in the coming days? This is possible since the New York Post announces that he has just hired Mo Cheeks, who had been with Billy Donovan since 2015, first with the Thunder, then with the Bulls. A few weeks ago, we learned that he was no longer an assistant in Chicago, and that he could, at 67, accept a management role.
Ultimately, he will still be on a bench, and it will be with the Knicks where he played a season and a half at the end of his career. These are therefore a double reunion for him since he has already worked with Tom Thibodeau, when they were assistants with the Sixers. He is also close to William Wesley, special advisor to the management for four years.
Former coach of the Blazers, Sixers and Pistons, Mo Cheeks is among the most experienced assistants in the NBA, joining Johnnie Bryant, Rick Brunson, Darren Erman, Andy Greer and Othella Harrington.
In Chicago, Billy Donovan has already found his new assistants with Wes Unseld Jr, the former Washington coach, and Dan CraigTyronn Lue's former right-hand man at the Clippers where he played the role of first assistant.
