ELF: successful return to school for the Paris Musketeers

For their first of the 2024 season, the Paris Musketeers did not go into detail, winning 41-14 against the Hamburg Sea Devils.

The Parisians, who are starting their second campaign in the European League of Football, were more than convincing on both ends of the pitch. The offense advanced 475 yards, while the defense contained the German franchise to 213 yards. The domination was total with a comfortable lead at half-time (7-20). And a match completed in 3e quarter-time (7-34).

This victory supports the continuity of last year's group, the majority of which were renewed. The team remained on 4 victories to end the last season. It also confirms targeted recruitment, which already looks like a good pick, on many levels.

The performance must be put into context. The Sea Devils certainly had a victory in the first week, but against one of the worst teams in the league. The real test for the Musketeers will be next week against Frankfurt, semi-finalist in 2023 and against whom Paris has never won.

The MVP(s): Zach Edwards (QB) and Austin Mitchell (WR)

Impossible to only talk about one man for this match. The doublet between Zach Edwards and Austin Mitchell simply crushed the German defenders.

We already knew the quarterback, a league veteran, and his aggressive, dual-threat style of play. Interceptions often spoiled performances. Sunday he was clinical.

On the other side, rookie Austin Mitchell, a small electric receiver from the German championship, immediately stood out for his first in ELF. He caught 4 touchdown passes, some complex, with a total of 152 yards.

Note the very good defensive performance of Stanley Zeregbe. French was everywhere on the pitch.

Next week: Paris Mousquetaires (1-0) vs Frankfurt Galaxy (0-1)

The rest of the league

Frankfurt Galaxy – Rhein Fire: 20-31

The Rhein Fire is in good shape. The reigning champions won in Frankfurt in a “big” duel. The 2023 MVP, without falling into excess, was clutch. The Fire will once again be contenders for the title and therefore for its succession.

Madrid Bravos – Barcelona Dragons: 42-12

One of Europe's historic franchises has been suffering for two years. For the first “classico” against the brand new Madrid team, there was no match. The scenario of the meeting was quite simply a copy and paste of that of Paris. Madrid is starting its story in the best possible way.
