Darvin Ham refused to reunite with Mike Budenholzer

Even if it is not to be a “head coach”, the rating of Darvin Ham remains high in the NBA. So, Mark Stein reveals that the Suns contacted him to be the right-hand man for Mike Budenholzer, signed for $50 million over five years to replace Frank Vogel.

The two technicians worked together at the Hawks then at the Bucks for almost ten years, and the tandem won the NBA title together in 2021. Logical that Budenholzer gave him a call as soon as he learned of his dismissal from the Lakers.

Fizdale, Budenholzer’s plan B

But Ham did not follow up, and our colleague confirms that he did not respond to calls from the Warriors who are looking for one or two assistants to expand Steve Kerr's staff.

After Ham's refusal, the Suns decided to keep David Fizdale, the only assistant who survived the dismissal of Frank Vogel. This weekend, Budenholzer almost completed his staff with the arrivals of Chad Forcier and Chaisson Allen, two coaches he has worked with in the past.
