Draft 2024 | Dillon Jones compares himself to Josh Hart

Weber State guard/wing, Dillon Jones slipped to HoopsHype that he had workouts planned with numerous franchises: Charlotte, Milwaukee, Boston, Toronto, San Antonio and Indiana. Teams which will speak at the end of the first and beginning of the second round.

This is where he is expected, after his season averaging 20.8 points and 9.8 rebounds in the NCAA. How does he see himself? What can he bring to an NBA team?

“Being a player who doesn’t really have a position, who can have an impact in several ways,” he replies. “I can adapt on the job. I think I'm a big rebounder. I showed my versatility in defense. The ball won't be in my hands as much as it was at Weber State, I just have to see how to adjust to that. I will probably defend on the opponent's best player most of the time. »

A new Josh Hart

A player of 1m98 and 106 kilos, unreliable at 3-point (32% success this season) who has great qualities to go for the rebound and who shows himself in defense, that does not remind us of a player from New York, by chance ?

“It's hard to find a better comparison for me than Josh Hart. He was a heck of a player at Villanova, who had the ball a lot then, but as soon as he got to the NBA, he found value with his game,” relates the 22-year-old young man. “He’s a great player in transition, on the rebound, to be tough and do what Tom Thibodeau needs. »

Additionally, Josh Hart was drafted in 2017 at 30th overall. He was therefore the last player of the first round, in waters which are similar to those of Dillon Jones, who draws another parallel to describe himself.

“I am also thinking of a second option in creation, like Jalen Brunson was in Dallas or Tyus Jones in Memphis,” he says. “They are not great athletes but they control the game with their game intelligence. I can imagine myself like that, being bigger. »
