Changes coming to the Rockets jersey. The president of the business side of the franchise told the Houston Business Journal that the franchise is looking for a new sponsorship contract for its jerseys.
For three seasons, the Texans jerseys bore the words “Credit Karma”, named after a multinational company specializing in personal finance. “ We have had an excellent collaboration with Credit Karma over the last three years, we now have the opportunity to call on a new partner for the start of next season », notes Gretchen Sheirr.
For the record, “Credit Karma Money” succeeded “ROKiT”, a smartphone company, whose deal with the Rockets ended before the resumption of the 2020/21 season. Houston therefore played without a jersey sponsor that season.
A spokesperson for Intuit Credit Karma said the sponsorship has been successful and mutually beneficial over the past three seasons. As part of this partnership, the company donated more than $250,000 to the Clutch City Foundationthe Rockets' charity.
Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, GM Rafael Stone and coach Ime Udoka recently hosted an event at the Post Oak Hotel with local and national brands to discuss the opportunity for a new contract. But the Texans are not currently in negotiations with any specific company for a new deal.
Financial terms of the previous deal were not disclosed. According to The Athletic, NBA jersey sponsorship deals average between $7 million and $10 million per year. Or even much more in the case of the Lakers for example, who entered into a partnership with Bibigo, a brand of Korean ready-made meals, for $100 million over five years!
