Towards a new Doc Rivers – Sam Cassell association?

The name of Sam Cassell is not only talked about in Los Angeles. The Celtics assistant will indeed meet the Lakers soon, for the coaching position. But he is targeted by another franchise and for another role: assistant coach in Milwaukee.

This is the information given by Marc Stein. It might be less interesting on paper than being the boss in Los Angeles, but it's a position he knows well since Doc Rivers runs the Bucks and that's the key to this rumor.

A third association on the benches?

The technician coached Sam Cassell in Boston and the two men won the title together in 2008. Then, the leader became Doc Rivers' assistant with the Clippers (2014-2020) then with the Sixers (2020-2023).

As Doc Rivers did not find a team last summer, the three-time NBA champion (1994 and 1995 with Houston, 2008 with Boston) bounced back to the Celtics to assist Joe Mazzulla. The latter must therefore be worried because he could lose a new assistant, after the departure of Charles Lee, new coach of the Hornets.

“He has been on the benches of the NBA and knows how to communicate with each player because he has experienced everything the players go through,” explained the Celtics coach, speaking of Sam Cassell, before Game 5 against the Cavaliers. “The first thing he does before matches is watch the videos. Even if he is a former player, he wants to learn, to study. He is loyal, he communicates well. He is a good coach, an excellent coach even. »
