The Buccaneers continue with contract extensions.
Payday for Antoine Winfield Jr.
The Buccaneers safety extends his contract for 4 years and 84 million dollars according to ESPN, or 21 million per year. He thus becomes the highest paid player from the second defensive curtain (cornerback and safety) in the league. He is ahead of Derwin James (Chargers, 19 million per year) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (Steelers, 18.25 million per year).
Of this $84 million, $45 million would be guaranteed. The highest guaranteed amount given for a safety. Retained by the franchise tag after the 2023 season, he now has a long-term contract, and with more money per year than the tag promised him.
All Pro last season
Since his selection in the 2nd round of the 2020 Draft, the former University of Minnesota player has been an indisputable starter in Todd Bowles' defense. He won a Super Bowl in his rookie year with Tom Brady as quarterback.
Very consistent, Antoine Winfield Jr. has always produced at least one interception in each season. In this area, he was especially productive in 2023 with 3 interceptions. To top it off last season, he had 122 tackles, 6 sacks, 12 passes defended and forced 6 fumbles. Which earned him a justified nomination to the NFL All-Pro first team.
After Mike Evans, Baker Mayfield and Lavonte David, it is therefore another executive who continues on the Buccaneers side.
