Present on the bench Mavericks since 2021, Jason Kidd certainly still had one year of contract in Texas, but his franchise did offer him an extension, as indicated by the insider Mark Stein.
“We are thrilled that Coach Kidd will continue to lead our team for years to come with this well-deserved contract extension.”, explained the new boss of the Dallas MavericksPatrick Dumont. “He has led our team to two playoff appearances in three seasons, and we look forward to his leadership as we continue to build and grow this already formidable franchise.”
For the moment, we do not know the duration or the amount of this contract extension, the club simply specifying that it concerns “over several seasons”.
Locked in before Lakers offense?
“I have known Jason for a long time and I cannot think of a more qualified candidate to lead this team in the future”added the GM, Nico Harrison. “As a former champion, and Hall of Famer, Jason brings experience and expertise to this role that cannot be duplicated. He has earned the trust and respect of our players and many others around the league, and I look forward to working alongside him to continue to build on the culture and foundation of success that he helped foster while throughout his mandate. »
Announced on the shelves of the Lakers, who however would not expect him to become free in the near future, the coach of Dallas has already led Luka Doncic's team to the playoffs twice, only missing them last season. In the regular season, he posted an overall record of 140 wins and 106 losses with the Mavs (57% success) and above all he helped them reach a conference final in 2022.
Waiting to compete in a new one this year? Indeed, Jason Kidd and the Mavericks are still in the running in the 2024 playoffs, with a conference semi-final about to begin against the Thunder.
Dallas thus qualified at this stage after eliminating the Clippers in the first round (4-2), continuing its good end to the regular season (16-4 over the last twenty games), the arrivals of Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington having brought a much better balance, particularly defensively, around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
