New England keeps its defensive tackle for $92 million.
The draft has just ended, but the New England teams are still in business. ESPN reports that the Patriots and Christian Barmore have just agreed to a four-year contract extension. The defensive tackle is entering his final year of his rookie contract, and the club was particularly keen to secure him for the seasons to come. Here he is signed until 2028.
The deal is for $41.8 million guaranteed, with a cap hit of $92 million.
At 24, Barmore is one of the pillars of the Massachusetts defense. Selected in the second round of the 2021 draft, he capitalized on a very good 2023 season during which he recorded 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and 16 quarterback hits. Also added is 1 forced fumble and 6 broken passes.
Eliot Wolf's (scouting director) strategy of “drafting and developing” his players is therefore fully realized through this signing.
