For a week, we have officially known the roster of Team USA for the Paris Olympic Games. With notably LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, or even Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard, the Americans will arrive in the French capital with a true “Dream Team”.
Obviously, for Steve Kerrafter a 2023 World Cup finished without a medal with an attractive but very young group, it's Christmas before its time.
“The squad is incredible. It will be so fun to coach this team with Mark Few, Erik Spoelstra and Tyronn Lue. I can't be more impatient,” announces the American coach. “It's a little reminiscent of the 1992 Dream Team, but the difference is that everyone is good now. In 1992, Chuck Daly didn't need to take a timeout and every game was won by 20, 30, 40 or 50 points. It's not the same anymore. Everyone has weapons and there are great teams. Despite the names of this squad, it will not be easy. But if the players play together and sacrifice, it will be very enjoyable. »
Stephen Curry valuable for group chemistry
For his last international competition with Team USA, Steve Kerr will have a superb team, with a cherry on the cake: Stephen Curry. The Warriors playmaker will take advantage of his last chance to put an Olympic gold medal around his neck. Experiencing these Games together is a gift for both men.
“He brings so much to a team. On the field obviously, but it will also help with alchemy and to make people understand the involvement that it requires from everyone”explains the Golden State coach.
Why is that ? “If you think about it, if we're playing nine, then three Hall of Famers aren't going to play. It's dangerous if guys don't handle it the right way. So everyone needs to be in tune emotionally, spiritually and physically. In my experience, you may need everyone but it takes a lot of mutual commitment to succeed in these environments” concludes Steve Kerr.
