How LeBron James became more skillful than Stephen Curry at 3-points?

This is perhaps the most incredible stat of this season: with 41.3% from 3-point range, LeBron James is more skillful than Stephen Curry! At 39 years old, LeBron is simply having his best career season at 3-pointers, and the Lakers superstar ranks squarely in 26th place in the ranking of the most skillful players by far. He is also in the Top 25 at general address.

Recently author of a 9 out of 10 from afar against the Nets, or even five 3-point baskets in four minutes against the Clippers at the end of February, LeBron has been particularly skillful since the All-Star Game with 46.6% since the cut. Does he have an explanation for this sudden 3-point address?

LeBron has never played so much in six years

“I have the opportunity to be on the field a lot more often outside of match days,” explains LeBron, who has never played so much since 2018. “My foot feels much better. Last year I didn't have time to do many sessions because I couldn't be on the field running because of my foot… You probably see me before the match on the field running working on my game and that helped me a lot too.”

Better on his supports and able to train more often, LeBron James has also modified his gestures and his trigger speed. According to ESPN, last year he was the slowest player to shoot in catch-and-shoot. In one year, he gained two tenths, and our colleagues report that the orientation of James' shoulder after receiving passes increased by seven degrees from left to right. His hips have also moved about six degrees from left to right since last season. Slight changes that allow him to position himself better in relation to the basket.

His favorite position? To the left of the circle

Our colleague Doris Burke also went to question him on the subject. “He smiled ironically” she says, then LeBron told her: “Of course it's intentional – I'm trying to align my right arm and shoulder with the basket. More than last season from the left side of the field.”

It is on the left side, in catch-and-shoot, that LeBron is extremely effective: 55%, compared to 29% last season!

This new gesture, which is reflected in the numbers, gives him more confidence. “There is this feeling that everything that has been worked on is falling into place. I remain consistent. I don't take reckless shots.” he explained at the end of February after the victory against the Clippers. “I stayed in the rhythm of the attack. My teammates did a good job of continuing to find me. It's just a (comfort) zone. I can't really describe it. But we wish we could stay there forever. »

And for now, it stays there!
